What a Claude Setup Costs: Seats, Help, Our Prices

what-a-claude-setup-costs

For a team of ten on Claude Team, the seats cost $2,400 a year ($20 a seat a month, billed yearly), and the plugin Anthropic built for small businesses comes with them at no extra charge. Help setting it up runs from free (Anthropic’s own workshops) to five figures at a boutique that sells to financial firms, and most published done-for-you setups for a small team sit between $2,500 and $12,500. Mine is $3,997, flat for one team of up to 20. One job live on your real work by day 14, or all your money back.

I sell these setups, so I’m biased. To keep that in check, every competitor price below comes from the seller’s own page, which I read with Claude on November 6, 2026. The exceptions are Fiverr and Upwork, which block the tools I used, so those numbers come from search results and are marked. Seat prices are Anthropic’s US prices before tax. Which plan we moved to comes from our own setup; everything else about seats comes from Anthropic’s pages. I haven’t bought a setup from any of these sellers, so this is what they publish, not how their work turned out.

How much does Claude cost for a small business?

Anthropic’s small business page puts it in one line: “Pro for one person, Team for a business with more than one.” Pro is $17 a month billed yearly ($200 up front), or $20 month to month. Team is for 2 to 150 people, and it needs at least two members.

A Team seat comes in two sizes, per claude.com/pricing:

  • Standard: $20 a seat a month billed yearly, or $25 billed monthly. Anthropic says it includes 1.25 times Pro’s per-session usage.
  • Premium: $100 a seat a month billed yearly, or $125 monthly, with 6.25 times Pro’s per-session usage (five times a Standard seat).

You can mix the two, so the people who live in Claude get Premium and everyone else stays on Standard. Who needs a Premium seat, and whether Team beats Pro at all, has its own post. Usage limits are per person, and one person’s unused allowance can’t go to someone else.

What that comes to in a year:

PeopleStandard, billed yearlyStandard, billed monthlyOne Premium seat in five, billed yearly
5$1,200$1,500$2,160
10$2,400$3,000$4,320
20$4,800$6,000$8,640

The ten-person line matches Anthropic’s own billing example ($20 × 10 seats × 12 months). The one-in-five Premium mix follows WotAI’s examples and is only an illustration. Plenty of teams need no Premium seats at all. We ran on personal Pro and Max seats, then moved to Claude Team in mid-2026, with Premium only for the people who code all day and Standard for everyone else.

Two pricing pages that come up in search still show older prices: findskill.ai lists $25 and $30 a seat with a five-seat minimum, and eesel.ai lists $25 and $30 for teams of five or more. Anthropic’s pages say $20 and $25, with a two-seat minimum.

Self-serve Enterprise is $20 a seat a month plus usage at API rates, billed yearly, with a 20-seat minimum. For a team of 5 or 10 it isn’t on the table.

Is Claude for Small Business free?

The plugin is, but it needs a paid plan. Anthropic’s launch post says it’s “available on every paid Claude plan, and we recommend the Team plan.” It runs in Cowork, the desktop app where Claude works with your files and connected tools, and the Free plan doesn’t include it. Free here means nothing on top of Pro or Team.

A few things really are free or close to it:

  • Workshops. Anthropic runs free in-person workshops, with stops listed for Tampa on November 10 and Raleigh on November 12, plus a free AI Fluency course for small businesses made with PayPal.
  • Nonprofits. Claude for Nonprofits is $8 a user a month for 2 to 150 seats, or $3 for nonprofits in low- and middle-income countries. It’s for registered 501(c)(3) organizations and their international equivalents, K–12 schools and some mission-based healthcare providers, like rural health clinics.

Setting up the plugin well is its own post: how to set up Claude’s Small Business plugin.

What costs extra on top of the seats?

The seat price is most of the bill for most teams. The surprises come from five places.

Usage past the limit. When someone hits their seat’s limit, an Owner can let them keep working on usage credits, billed at standard API rates. Owners set a monthly spend limit for the whole organization and for each person. Set both before you turn credits on.

Bundles. Credits bought ahead cost up to 30% less: $45 for $50 of credit, $200 for $250, $700 for $1,000. On Team, Owners can buy up to $3,000 of bundles a month.

Seats you can’t give back. Adding a seat charges the prorated amount right away. Removing one gives no refund or credit, and a lower seat count only takes effect at renewal, which on a yearly plan means the anniversary. Don’t buy seats for people you haven’t hired yet.

The API credit isn’t a seat discount. Team now includes a monthly API credit of $20 per Standard seat and $100 per Premium seat, pooled and capped at $500. Ten Standard seats get $200 a month. It’s for building on the API through a linked Console organization. It doesn’t cover Claude Code in the terminal, IDE, desktop or web, it doesn’t cover extra usage, and it expires at the end of each billing cycle. Claude Code itself is included with every Team seat, and past the seat’s limit it runs on the same usage credits.

Automation on an API key. This is where the surprises come from. Our Claude seats include Cowork, and the subscription covers a lot: one extraction job ran inside it for $0 metered, about 1.9 million plan tokens. The expensive night came from somewhere else. Two of our bots argued over one pull request for about 21 hours, and the bill was roughly $500 in automatic credit reloads on our API account. The same month we found our test suite had been billing a live API key on every run. Neither was a seat or a Team overage. Both were API spend from automation nobody was watching, and both are why our weekly review now has a “metered spend, month to date” line.

Tools outside Claude can add a little too. The search index we run on Vertex AI costs about $0 to $6 a month, with a $10 hard cap.

How much does it cost to hire someone to set up Claude?

From free to five figures. Cheapest first, with a few named examples on each rung:

WhoPublished priceWhat it is
AnthropicFreeWorkshops and a course. You do the setup
Fiverr and UpworkFiverr gigs starting at $10 to $175; Upwork tiers of $300, $750 and $1,500 (from search results)Usually one person, one workspace
A playbook$397Justin McKelvey’s DIY playbook
Small sellers$2,500 to $12,500 and upWellforce, AutomateNexus, Strategized, SpotDev, The AI Consultancy, McKelvey’s $4,500+ build
A boutique for financial firms$10,000 to $40,000WorkWise Solutions, priced by headcount: $10,000 for an investment adviser of up to 10 people, $25,000 for a private credit firm that size, $40,000 at 61 to 150

What you get at the low end is narrow. AI Codex, writing for consultants who sell these, calls $800 to $2,000 a reasonable range for a single-team setup: “one workspace, 2-4 Projects, one team walkthrough.” When I priced 56 Fiverr gigs that promise an AI trained on your business in October, most of the difference between $30 and $20,000 was what happens after the first demo, and that post has six questions to ask before you pay anyone, me included.

Two numbers you’ll see quoted are estimates, not prices. AIessentials puts general AI consulting for a small business at $5,000 to $25,000 a project or $150 to $350 an hour, for AI work in general, not Claude. McKelvey’s page puts “hire an AI agency” at $15K to $50K, with no source.

The consultants comparison has every seller on that middle rung, with what each includes and how long it takes, next to mine.

Where is it cheaper than hiring me?

Several places, and you should know them before you talk to me.

  • Doing it yourself costs your seats and your time. If someone on your team lives in Claude and has a few hours a week, that’s the cheapest route by far. Start with the admin settings we change on a new Team plan.
  • Fiverr is cheaper for one person who wants one workspace set up. Read the package, not the starting price.
  • Wellforce starts at $2,500, and its one flat fee covers design, setup, connectors, a starter Skills library, two training sessions and an AI policy for a team of 5 to 25. The fee scales with seats.
  • Strategized sets up Claude for just you, from $2,997 in 14 days. If you’re one person, that’s built for you and mine isn’t.
  • AutomateNexus starts from $3,500, under my founding price. Its care plan is $350 a month and optional, about a third of my Release care at $997. It also sets up ChatGPT, if you haven’t picked yet.
  • SpotDev, in the UK, sets up up to 15 people over four weeks for £3,500, fixed, before VAT.

None of those prices include Claude seats. AutomateNexus, SpotDev and McKelvey say outright that you pay Anthropic for them. Wellforce bills outside software at cost and doesn’t say who pays for seats, so ask. Mine runs on your own Claude plan, and you pay Anthropic for the seats.

What does our Claude setup cost?

Every step, cheapest first. All of it is on the pricing page.

  • Hand Off One Job, free. Send me your last proposal, customer reply or weekly update. In 48 hours you get, by email, a setup that drafts the next ones in your voice, a walkthrough video and instructions for your own Claude. No meeting and no card. You need a paid Claude plan to run it. Start here.
  • Hand Off One Job, Installed, $997. I set one job up in your own Claude with your rules and prices, and fix it on your real work until you’d send the drafts as they are, in 7 days. If it isn’t drafting from your real work by day 7, you get your money back. Buy the setup within 30 days and all of it counts toward that. The one-job page.
  • Coaching, $1,997. A kickoff and four 90-minute sessions over screen share for up to 5 people, about $300 an hour. You do the typing. Coaching.
  • The setup, $3,997 for my first 3 teams, then $5,997. Flat for one team of up to 20, done in 14 days: your company manual on every seat, search across your email, docs, calls and chat, a project for each client, three jobs that run overnight, two trainings, an AI policy and an exit doc. One job live on your real work by day 14, or all your money back. The setup.
  • Release care, $997 a month, optional. I read every Claude release, test what matters for a team your size and update your manual, skills and jobs, with a short note each month. Without it, the setup keeps working and you decide when to update.

The guarantee covers what I control: the job going live on your work. It doesn’t cover whether your team keeps using it, which is why the setup ends with a check at day 30 on who is.

Should you set up Claude yourself or hire help?

It comes down to whose hours you’re spending. Set it up yourself if someone on the team already lives in Claude, has a few hours a week, and you’re fine with Claude answering only when someone asks. McKelvey puts doing it from scratch at 80+ hours. That’s his estimate, and he sells the alternative, same as me.

Hire help when nobody has those hours, or when you want work drafted overnight without anyone opening a chat. At $50 an hour, my setup costs the same as 80 hours of someone’s time. The calculator runs that with your own numbers.

Coaching is the middle route: you build it, with me on the call, and you understand every piece when we’re done. Set it up yourself, with coaching, or have it done compares the three on the same seats. If you’d rather plan it alone, the setup planner gives you a plan with the hours, no email needed. And if you already pay for seats and suspect they’re half used, the team check takes ten questions.

What does a 10-person team pay over three years?

Ten people on Standard seats billed yearly pay $7,200 over three years, whichever route they take. On top of that:

RouteOne-timeOver three years
On your ownYour time$7,200 of seats, plus your time
With my coaching$1,997$7,200 of seats, plus $1,997, plus less of your time
Set up by me$3,997$7,200 of seats, plus $3,997

Spread over three years and ten people, the setup is about $11 a person a month. Release care isn’t in that table. At $997 a month it costs more over three years than the setup does, so add it only if you want someone keeping up with what Anthropic ships.

What I couldn’t confirm

  • What a “from” price becomes for your team. Wellforce’s fee scales with seats, and most sellers publish a starting price only. Fiverr and Upwork I saw only in search results. Ask for a quote at your headcount before comparing.
  • How much usage past the seat a team like yours burns. I don’t have a number for a typical team, and Anthropic doesn’t publish one. Set the spend limits first and read the first month’s bill.
  • Prices outside the US. Anthropic says pricing, currency and tax vary by region, and I only checked US prices.

What should I do next?

If you haven’t bought seats, buy Standard seats only for the people who’ll use Claude this month. Monthly billing costs $5 more a seat, and in exchange a lower seat count takes effect at your next renewal, which is next month instead of next year.

If you have, set the usage-credit spend limits today, then decide whose hours the setup will come from.

If you’d like to see one job work before spending anything, send me your last proposal, reply or update. It’s free, and you’ll have a setup that drafts the next one in 48 hours.
