Microsoft Copilot vs Claude, Set Up for You

If your company runs on Outlook, Teams and SharePoint, Copilot Business sees all of it for $21 a person a month, and it can run prompts on a schedule. Its heavier background work (Copilot Cowork), the agents your company builds and connectors outside Microsoft are billed on top, by use. I set up Claude Team for teams whose work spreads past Microsoft, with the background work on the seat and the setup done for you.

Where Copilot Wins

For a company that's all in on Microsoft, it's the obvious first step.

What it does better

  • It already sees your mail, files, chats and meetings, if they're all in Microsoft 365.
  • It's inside the apps people already have open, so there's nothing new to learn.
  • It costs less in the first year, especially at the promotional price, if you don't need the metered parts.

Where my setup falls short

  • It's Claude only. If your team won't give up ChatGPT or Copilot, you'd pay for both.
  • It moves with Anthropic. When they change a feature, the setup has to change with it: your team does that, or I do on Release care.
  • One person does it: me. You're betting on my calendar, which is why the guarantee comes with all your money back.
  • It's priced for one team of up to 20. A bigger company, on Claude Team or Enterprise, gets scoped on a call, and needs someone in IT who owns permissions.
  • It drafts and never sends. Someone still reads every proposal before it goes out.
  • If someone on your team already lives in Claude and has the hours, coaching for $1,997 gets you most of the way.

Our brain broke more often from bad inputs than from the model. Eight times, a tool returned a wrong answer with no error at all. Whichever AI you pick, check what it's reading. The eight times.

Questions About Copilot

Help Topics
_ □ ×
Copilot has scheduled prompts and Cowork. Why pay for a setup?
The parts are there. What they produce depends on what they know: your prices, how you scope work, which client is which, what never gets sent. Writing that down, building the jobs around it and getting your team to use them is the work, on any platform. If you're all in on Microsoft, have your IT partner do it there.
We use Outlook. Can your Claude setup read it?
Yes. It connects to Outlook or Gmail, read-only by default, and it writes only drafts. A person sends every email. How we connect email safely.
Can we keep Copilot and add Claude?
Yes, though you'd pay for both. Keep Copilot in Word and Excel and use Claude for client work. They don't share memory, so decide which one owns what you know about clients.
Is Copilot Business the same as Microsoft 365 Copilot?
It's the version for businesses with up to 300 people, sold as an add-on to a Microsoft 365 Business plan. Companies with more than 300 people buy the enterprise version.
